Stanzas in the Sky

July 4th, 2024

Happy 4th to those who celebrate! Watching Macy's fireworks show on the Hudson from my living room, I thought I'd relive some moments through a poem. It's been a minute since I've written one so why not. Hope you enjoy.

Stanzas in the Sky

The obsidian sky cracks open,

powder constellations bloom.

Souls gather, faces held upward,

seeking meaning in blended colors.

With each burst:

a whisper,

a held breath,

a naive sky pregnant with possibilities,

then a roar. vicious beauty is born,

releasing life into the void.

and fading ghosts of light linger.

With each burst:

a question

Who am I in this moment?

red, white, blue -- hues of division and unity

I watch -- splintered and aligned.
